Nina’s Journey is a feature film, but with an authentic narrator. We follow Nina and her family during six dramatic years, half of them spent in the Warsaw ghetto. The film tells the story of a young girl coming of age under extreme circumstances: Nina falls in love, goes to parties, and graduates high school – all in the Warsaw ghetto. One could say that, in these horrid times, she is almost living the life of a normal teenager. If it wasn’t for the fact that all those around her are vanishing, one by one. Nina’s Journey is shot in Warsaw, with Polish actors. But it is narrated by the elderly Nina Einhorn herself.

Free; donations accepted.

Films start at 1:30pm. Refreshments for attendees are served at 1pm. Lunch (not included) is available in the Kaffestugan, which is open until 3pm every Saturday.

After their public showing movies in our film series become part of the Scandinavian Library’s collection of DVDs available for borrowing by Library members.

PutnamAbout Odds

Odds Bodkin, called “a consummate storyteller” by the New York Times, shares two of his favorite Norse myths and delves into how, during the Medieval Warm Period, when Europe’s seas warmed for three hundred years, Scandinavians––Swedes, Norwegians and men of the Danish Mark––ventured far across the world, sometimes raiding, but mostly trading their way all the way to the Caspian Sea.
