The New England Mosaic Society is holding an exhibit of mosaics created by the members participating in the 2023 and 2020 Collaborative Projects. The final mosaic is the result of a collaboration between two artists. One artist starts the mosaic, the other artist finishes it. All the mosaics will be on display in our Nordic Hall. The exhibit will also include mosaics by Richard Youngstrom and Karen Edlund. This commemorative exhibit recognizes the major contributions these deceased artists made to NEMS and the larger mosaic community.
“The New England Mosaic Society (NEMS) is a volunteer organization that promotes and supports mosaics as a fine art. It began in 2015 when ten mosaicists came together at Mosaic Oasis in Arlington, MA and started the discussion to form the society. Today, its mission is to promote contemporary mosaic art while preserving traditional techniques.
NEMS is committed to building a diverse and welcoming community of artists of all ability levels, as well as lovers and supporters of mosaic art. Membership is open to all New England mosaic artists including amateurs, professionals, and mosaic suppliers. Members are encouraged to grow through education, sharing of information, and involvement in exhibitions and community events.”
For as long as human beings have existed, so has competition and different ways of challenging yourself and each other. An urge that can be traced all the way back to cave paintings, which pictured people competing with one another.
Kim Cannon Arm is a true legend of arcade games. He and his friends from Bip Bip Bar set out to break the world record of his favorite game Gyruss, which is known as one of the most intense arcade games ever invented. He is planning to play nonstop for 100 hours – that is four days in a row. Kim obviously needs to be in good physical shape before he tries to break the record, and the game needs to be specifically planned so that Kim can once in a while get a 15-minute break on a mattress in the corner.
Director Mads Hedegaard has created a film full of vibrant colors, electric sounds and catchy music by Iron Maiden, Bach and Bonnie Tyler as well as a big love for all the characters in the film. The friends from Bip Bip Bar play all the old games that have paved the way for the big esport tournaments and star players of today. Playing is a way to challenge ourselves individually, but also something we do together.
Cannon Arm and the Arcade Quest is about fellowship and the bonds that keep people together. Kim, Carsten, Dyst and their friends have found each other in arcade games. Only with community can it be possible for Kim to achieve his goal.

As part of our celebration of Huldufólk (Iceland’s hidden people) we present The Seer and the Unseen.
Set against the spectacular landscape of Iceland, THE SEER AND THE UNSEEN follows Ragnhildur “Ragga” Jónsdóttir, a grandmother and “seer” who has the ability to communicate directly with a parallel realm of elves — invisible spirits of nature that over half of Iceland believes in. As a respected seer, government officials, businesses and individuals ask Ragga to consult the elves to learn where they can and cannot develop land. But not everyone listens. The elves enlist Ragga to help save an ecologically important lava field set to be razed by road construction — just one of the many needless development projects spurred by Iceland’s sensational financial meltdown in 2008. THE SEER AND THE UNSEEN follows Ragga’s fight to protect this elfin landscape, exploring the human relationships to nature, economy and the enchanting power of belief.
